Mai ameţitoare vorbe nu s-au rostit niciodată, afară de: Cred, Doamne, ajută necredinţei mele.
… Nu cred şi totuşi mă rog. Cred şi totuşi ştiu că nu cred cu adevărat. Cred de vreme ce-i spun „Doamne”‘ lui Hristos. Şi nu cred de vreme ce-l rog să vină în ajutorul necredinţei mele. (Şi cui îi cer să mă vindece de necredinţă? Celui în care urmează să cred!) Cauzalitatea e desfiinţată, legea succesiunii în timp, ca tot ce-i material sau psihic, dispare. Şi cred şi nu cred, simultan. Dedublarea. Contradicţia. Deci incertitudinea, angoasa. Conştiinţa otrăvind totul, otrăveşte şi credinţa pe care în clipa când ne dăm seama de ea o prefacem în necredinţă deoarece gândind credinţa o scoatem din inefabil, din candoare
Dar şi ieşirea, nădejdea, nimic nu-i pierdut: pentru că, smerit, adaog: ajută-mă, luând aminte că omeneasca mea condiţie e indiscutabil legată de paradox şi contradicţie.
